The extension of the Southern Highway from Matara to Beliatta however appears to be in a class of its own is over priced by an astounding 545%. The common denominator of all these projects is that they were funded with Chinese borrowings and contracts have all been awarded in 2014 without calling for competitive bids. The loss arising from these 4 projects alone is estimated at Rs 200 billion.
